The Deputy Chairman of the Council of Small and Medium Enterprises at the Chamber of Commerce, Guntis Vilnitis believes that the percentage of “black” economy and “black” market may reach 50-60% in Latvia, as reported by the program De facto.

As we know, last week the Riga Graduate School of Economics presented an analysis of the shadow economy in Latvia.

It turned out that last year the percentage of salaries in the “envelope”, as well as tax evasion amounted to 38,1% of GDP.

According to the researcher of the Riga School of Economics Arnis Sauka, prostitution, smuggling, trafficking of illegal alcohol, cigarettes and fuel, drugs and weapons were not included in this figure.

All of these products and services are related to the black market – the part of the shadow economy, which is associated with the turnover of goods and services that are not the subject of legal sales.

To calculate the precise turnover on the black market is almost impossible.

The Director General of the State Revenue Service Nellija Ezdakova said in interview that there was common opinion that the turnover from prostitution can be up to 100 million lats a year.

But the head of the SRS believes that this figure is too high.

After seven centuries of foreign domination, Latvia is again independent, and is transforming into an economically strong and democratic state, ready for the challenges of the 21st century.

Despite the fact that history of the country began 3000 years ago, people living in four main areas – Latgale, Zemgale, Kurzeme and Vidzeme – had no central government, though they were lucky traders.

Teutonic Knights of the Sword, “Carrying the cross of the Lord”, conquered them, and founded Riga in 1201.

From that time until the First World War, German, Russian, Poles and Swedes had fought for control over this territory, and Latvian culture was suppressed.

Russian and German people had the biggest impact, which ended in 1701 after the defeat of King Peter the Great.

Russian kings appointed the governors, but in fact they ruled with the help of German nobility, who treated the Latvians as a serf.

Independence was gained, lost and gained again.

Changes in the world caused by the First World War, raised the people of Latvia for the bitter war for independence, which ended with its recognition in 1920.

In the inter-war period, Latvia regained its economy, reformed agriculture, implemented industrialization and expanded the possibility to obtain higher education.

But the outbreak of World War II drew Latvia again in the old Sovereign struggle.

The Soviet Union and Hitler, in turn, caused terror and mass deportations.

After the war, the country became a Soviet socialist republic.

Farms were collectivized. National flag and anthem were banned.

The collapse of the Soviet Union made it possible to restore the independence of Latvia, 21 August 1991.

The price was high. It was necessary to revive the economy. But the reward in the form of entrepreneurship, human values and freedom is visible to every visitor of the country.

Latvia is one of the greatest discoveries in Europe.

Riga is a wonderful surprise to visitors. Big city, which once again revived its emotional atmosphere and sophistication.

A lot of industries are located in Latvia, textile, metallurgical (including metal stamping), automotive & transportation, food processing industry, light industry and many others.

Teen camps, where children’s rest is arranged with love – are a bunch of experience, new discoveries, new friends and adventures!

Modern teen camps are significantly different from the idea, which might be firmly fixed in the minds of the parents since their childhood.

As a rule, they were noisy huge rooms, regular morning forming and the necessity to follow carefully the laid out mode – all those ideas are in the past.

Today’s teen camp are not similar, like twin brothers.

Virtually every one of them has its own line of work with teenagers, its own recreation program, provides children the opportunity to prove themselves in things they love.

Teen camps are aimed to improve the kids, give them the opportunity to throw out their energy, which is absolutely impossible in urban conditions, and also to give them useful knowledge and skills in exciting, very unusual game form.

Teen camps are clean place, fresh air, talented teachers and instructors, comfortable living conditions.

Teen camps, which program aims at learning foreign languages, are very popular today.

Creative and educational camps are also popular: as pursuing general developmental goal and gathering talented children to work specifically in one direction, for detecting ability.

Perhaps, the most expensive kind recreation for teenagers are teen camps abroad.

Their main advantages are of course, that a child will look the world, will bring a lot of new experiences, meet with elements of other cultures.

And also he will get the chance to hear “live” language, make friends from other countries, enjoy a modern high quality of service.

Choosing a teen camp abroad and preparing your child for the trip, you should tell him about the country which he will attend, of those amazing moments which he should pay attention to.

And do not be afraid that there the camp will “teach bad”. In fact, teen camps are almost the only opportunity for children to learn independence, direct contact with a completely unknown people. And it is hardly expedient to deprive him of this experience.

The whole staff of teen camps, is required to attend a specialized training course that includes psychological testing, a theoretical course and practical training, where in the form of role-playing games and training sessions virtually every moment of the program is “played”. With their help, training abroad will be for your children a great adventure!

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Janis Yurkans believes that Latvian state went bankrupt and lost its independence.

“Latvia as a country went bankrupt.

If they will not lend us money – how we are going to pay the pensioners, how we treat people, etc?”- said Yurkans on Tuesday night in the program “Question with prejudice” on the Riga TV PRO100TV.

The politician also believes that Latvia lost all independence.

“Latvia has proved that it can not exist as a state.

It should be under the flag of the EU.

We have no foreign policy, no defense – if we get into the euro zone – the money will not printed in Latvia. And the economy is dictated by those who print money … We owed so much money that our great-grandchildren would give it back.

So I do not see the future for a small, beautiful Latvia “- said Yurkans.

Latvia is experiencing severe economic crisis.

Many enterprises are bankrupt.

Unemployment reached 18%.

The Government has requested assistance from the IMF, the European Commission and other financial institutions, which provided the country with a loan of 7.5 billion euros.

The Saeima (Parliament) of Latvia on Monday at an extraordinary meeting decided to transfer the amendments to the law “On electronic media” for reconsideration of the parliamentary commissions, informs the press service of the Seimas.

Under the amendments, television and radio channels with national status are required to broadcast in Latvian at least 65% of airtime.

The Parliament on June 16 approved a bill in final reading, but Latvian president refused to approve the bill and returned it for revision to the parliament with a demand to introduce similar restrictions in relation to regional broadcasters.

After completion, the amendments will be put back to a vote in Parliament in commissions.

Moscow believes that official Riga continues a policy of discrimination against Russian-speaking population.

This is stated in the commentary of the Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko.

“The amendments adopted by the Parliament of Latvia have demonstrated the commitment of the official line of Riga on discrimination of Russian-speaking population and the restriction of freedom of speech in general.

There is an attempt of Latvian authorities to return the “language quotas”, which were in force in the 90s of the previous century in this country and recognized illegal by the Constitutional Court on 5 June 2003, including the contradictions of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities”, – said Nesterenko last Tuesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman expressed disappointment that the President Valdis Zatlers took part in this campaign.

“The head of the Latvian State referred the bill back for reconsideration by the Seimas not trying to bring it into conformity with international law, and to further tightening, in particular, by extending the requirements of broadcasts in the Latvian language in the evening, not only at national but also to regional media “, – said the diplomat.

According to Nesterenko, these actions of Latvian authorities confirm once again the propriety, concerning the rules of the Latvian law, repeatedly expressed by the Russian side, limiting the internationally recognized rights of national minorities, in particular in the areas of language use, and the validity of question by Russian side on the need to protect the rights and interests of Russian compatriots residing in this state in front of the Latvian side and international organizations.

On July 1, in Riga, the event took place which was banned by Riga City Council and authorized by the decision of the Administrative District Court devoted to the 69th anniversary of the entry of troops of Hitler’s Germany in the capital of Latvia, a correspondent of REGNUM News reports.

Not numerous participants, called a group of Latvian radical nationalists, taking part in the march to the Freedom Monument at 19:00 local time (20:00 Moscow time) surrounded by the larger crowds of journalists, cameramen and onlookers, began to move from so-called Museum of the Occupation.

But soon the road was blocked by two cars of the municipal police with flashing lights included.

Some part of the marchers, including one of the initiators of the action Igors Shishkinsa, returned to the building of the Museum of the occupation.

Here the representatives of the municipal police tried to detain Shishkinsa, but he had a fairly active (non-violent) resistance.

The police, who were greatly outnumbered by force, managed to twist his arm.

He was dragged to the police car with the cheers of some people and the indignant cries of others, under the chatter of dozens of television and still cameras were packed into Pusik.

However, that was not all.

Soon people willing to put the flowers appeared at the Freedom Monument, which in a few minutes walk from the Museum of the occupation.

A tall shaven-headed young man in a suit and tie was the first to do it, trying to give his activities a maximum of solemnity.

He was followed by several more people laying flowers to the monument.

“One occupation (Soviet – REGNUM News) was replaced by another (German – REGNUM News).

We do not prevent Russian from celebrating May 9, “- he explained his actions to a correspondent of REGNUM news, not wishing to give his name and the organization that he represents at the same time.

Moreover, he repeatedly stressed that the Latvians and Russians have nothing to share in Latvia.

Meanwhile, the mood of the crowd, which gradually gathered at the foot of the monument of freedom (there have been several dozens people, along with journalists and opponents of the event), was very diverse.

Someone demanded the trial of the collaborators, meaning the current leadership of Latvia, which cooperates with the U.S., Russia and Israel in the destruction of Latvian industry, and decolonization, meaning the expulsion of veterans of the Soviet Army from the country who remained after the withdrawal of Russian forces.

Someone tried to discuss.

Someone showed a richly illustrated book “A terrible year”, narrating the abuses that were brought down by the Soviet regime (participants of the event said: “Russian”) on the Latvian people in June 1941.

“Russian is worse than Nazis!” – cried out a woman, and added: “A terrible year goes on!”.

There were other shouts of insulting character to non-Latvians.

However, it was felt that people were taking out the bitterness from the misery and humiliation in Latvia.

“I have jobs and earn nothing,” – tall shaven-headed young man in a suit said, among other things.

Tattered collar of his white shirt proved that he was telling the truth.

The police did not prevent the contact between the exponents of different views.

By 20:00 local time, people had begun to disperse.

Calendar of dates, provoking ethnic strife and unrest, thus was replenished.
